The brilliance of some modern virus writers is astounding. They can exploit published vulnerabilities in systems within a day, as demonstrated by the recent Sasser worm. There is no substitute for a good virus checker, regularly updated. It should be considered a basic business need. However, such software does not guarantee that infections will not occur and therefore organisations need to be ready for a virus or malware infection.
